Prisoners and Detainees Rights Commission hails opening of clinic for reform centres inmates

Manama, September 19 (BNA) The Prisoners and Detainees Rights Commission praised the opening of the medical clinic to provide health services to inmates in correction and rehabilitation centers. The clinic was inaugurated by the Chairman of the Supreme Council of Health, Lieutenant-General Dr. Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, and the Minister of Health, Dr. Jalila Al-Sayed.


The authority stressed the importance of the event, noting that the clinic will be subject to government hospitals that provide comprehensive health services. She added that the measure aims to ensure the continuation of providing comprehensive health care to inmates around the clock. She pointed out that this step comes within the framework of the efforts made by the relevant government agencies, including the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Health and independent monitoring institutions, to provide the necessary living and health care for inmates.

The Commission for the Rights of Prisoners and Detainees has previously recommended in several reports that the Ministry of Health, in coordination with the administration of the place, undertakes the provision of health care to inmates, with the construction of a new building for the clinic in the center and an increase in the number of medical staff working in it.

The opening of the new clinic also comes within a series of programs and projects implemented by the General Directorate of Reform and Rehabilitation at the Ministry of Interior and the Directorate of the Correction and Rehabilitation Center, under the directives of the Minister of Interior, the Undersecretary of the Ministry and related departments to improve and develop services provided to inmates.
