London, August 25 (BNA) A unique black Ford Escort that the late Princess Diana drove in the 1980s is set to be auctioned this weekend at Silverstone, Britain.

One of 130 lots on sale on Saturday, the RS Turbo Series 1 Escort was owned by Diana between 1985 and 1988. It’s believed to be the only example of a model made in black, according to Silverstone Auctions, which expects it will be fetched. More than 100,000 pounds ($118 thousand).

The RS Turbo Series 1 is usually built in white, but the royal family’s police guard asked for the Diana to be painted black “for the sake of discreetness,” the auctioneers said.

Driving the car less than 25,000 miles (about 40,000 km) per hour, was a “very brave choice,” Orwell Richards, a classic car specialist at Silverstone Auctions, told Reuters.

“All the other royals were driving around London in the back…for an official car…and they’re driving a car…you might see it on a residential property not outside the palace.”

Next week marks 25 years since Diana, 36, died when the limousine she was in crashed into a Paris tunnel while away from paparazzi chasing motorbikes.

Other pieces at the auction, which takes place alongside the Classic – a three-day motor racing festival at the Northamptonshire Circuit – include a convertible Rolls-Royce that was once owned by Bee Gee Maurice Gibb.

The singer, who died in 2003, bought the black 1973 Corniche in 1979. Decorated with red leather, the car remained in the family until 2012. It is listed at an indicative price of 100,000 – 115,000 pounds.

In addition, under the hammer is a 1973 Rover P5, used to drive former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher when she was elected in 1979 to meet Queen Elizabeth, with an indicative price of £35,000 – £45,000.

The 1988 Volkswagen T25 Caravelle GL 112 minibus is offered to transport the late British physicist Stephen Hawking without a spare price.
