‘Prime Minister’s journalism award a platform for journalists to compete, be creative’

Manama, May 14 (BNA): The winners of the seventh edition of the Prime Minister’s Prize for Journalism described it as a platform for journalists to compete and develop innovative ideas.

This came after the awards ceremony that was held today under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.

Photographer Youssef Toledo, from the Bahrain News Agency (BNA), won the “Best Photography” award for a photo taken of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and His Holiness Pope Francis during the latter’s visit to Bahrain in November 2022. Which documents a historical event, and affirms the vision of coexistence and peace that His Majesty King Hamad called for it.

Tulevt said he considered the award a tribute to his 38-year career. He added that the award was a source of motivation for all photographers and journalists to be more dedicated.

He stressed the importance of pictures in journalism, because of their influence that exceeds the impact of words, in recording and documenting events.

Khalil Youssef of Al-Ayyam newspaper, winner of the “Best Column” award, expressed his happiness at winning this prestigious award, adding that it was a source of motivation for all members of Al-Ayyam newspaper’s family towards more excellence.

He stressed the importance of the media’s role in serving the country and its people, noting that his article “Thinking Outside the Box” represents a good example for the article related to development.

Rashed Al-Ghaib of Al-Bilad newspaper, who won the “Best Investigative Journalism” award for his report on the “Food Security Initiative,” pointed out the importance of the award and what it represents in honoring meaningful journalistic content. The investigation dealt with the food security initiative in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

Hassan Al-Sitri from Al-Watan newspaper, which won the “Best Interview” award, expressed his pride in this award, pointing out that it confirms the role of journalism in supporting the national development process.

Mohammed Al-Jayousi of Al-Bilad newspaper, winner of the “Best Interview” award for conducting and interviewing Dr. Nasser Qaedi, CEO of the Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority (BTEA), said that the press interview gives the journalist an opportunity to innovate and be competitive.

He expressed his pride in honoring His Highness the Crown Prince and Prime Minister during the ceremony, which was attended by the Minister of Information, Dr. Ramadan bin Abdullah Al-Nuaimi.

Al-Jayousi affirmed that this prestigious award proves the support enjoyed by journalists in Bahrain, adding that he is optimistic about the future of journalism thanks to the constant patronage of His Majesty the King, who believes in the national role of the press and the great role it plays.
