Polling agencies project reelection for French leader Macron

Paris, April 24 (BNA): French President Emmanuel Macron appears to have easily won re-election Sunday in the run-off, polling agencies predicted, offering France and the European Union to reassure leadership stability in the bloc’s only nuclear-armed power.

Macron’s second five-year term – if official results confirm later Sunday – would reap France and its allies in Europe and post-seismic turmoil for a wartime transition of power to far-right nationalist rival Marine Le Pen, which she quickly recognized. its defeat.

Her campaign had pledged to reduce France’s relations with the 27-nation European Union, the military alliance of NATO and Germany, moves that would have destabilized Europe’s security architecture.

And polling agencies’ forecasts, released as the last polls closed, said Macron was on course to beat Le Pen by a double-digit margin.

Five years ago, Macron scored a landslide victory over Le Pen to become France’s youngest president, at 39.

The margin is expected to be much smaller this time: polling agencies Opinionway, Harris and Ifop predicted the 44-year-old pro-European centrist would win at least 57% of the vote.
