Pereira heads late winner as leader PSG wins 2-1 at Lorient

Paris, November 6 (BNA): Paris Saint-Germain needed a late goal from defender Danilo Pereira on Sunday to score a 2-1 victory over Lorient and regain a five-point lead at the top of the French League.

Pereira headed a corner kick from Neymar in the 81st minute to keep unbeaten Paris Saint-Germain a comfortable difference over second-placed Lens, according to the Associated Press.

Lionel Messi was relieved of the match due to some inflammation in his Achilles tendon. The Argentine star, who is looking to win the World Cup for the first time in his impressive career, is expected to resume training next week.

Messi replaced 20-year-old Hugo Ikitaki, who marked a rare start with Neymar’s opening goal after nine minutes. Neymar’s eleventh goal in the league made him equal with his colleague Kylian Mbappe at the top of the scoring lists.

The fourth-placed Lorient equalized in the 53rd minute through top scorer Terim Movi, the ninth in the season.

Midfielder Enzo Lovi sent the Nigerian striker away, veteran defender Sergio Ramos made no cover and Movi fired past goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Movi hit the crossbar shortly after as Lorient went up front, but then failed to capture Pereira from Neymar’s corner.
