Pandemic again forces delay in plans for next Davos meeting

Geneva, Dec. 20 (BNA): The World Economic Forum is once again postponing its much-anticipated annual meeting of world leaders, businessmen and other elites in Davos, Switzerland, amid fresh doubts about the omicron alternative to the coronavirus.

The forum, which has repeatedly postponed last year’s event and has finally been moved and canceled, says the previously planned January 17-21 gathering in the alpine city will now take place in “early summer” — without giving details, the AP reports.

“The current pandemic conditions make it extremely difficult to hold a global in-person meeting,” the forum said in a statement.

“The preparations were guided by expert advice and benefited from the close cooperation of the Swiss government at all levels.”

Founder Klaus Schwab said the forum still plans to host a “digital meeting of leaders from business, government and civil society.”

The forum said a “key series of State of the World sessions” would bring them online to tackle global challenges.

The Davos media-friendly conference is a global platform where world leaders and CEOs come together to talk about potential deals.

Academics and heads of non-governmental groups speak in online discussion sessions or comb the aisles looking to the elbow with decision-makers.
