Osimhen nets 2, Napoli moves 16 points clear ahead of derby

Rome, Feb. 5 (BNA): Victor Osimhen looks set to lead Napoli to the Serie A title, reports the Associated Press.

Osimhen scored two more goals on Sunday to help Napoli beat Spezia 3-0 and move within 16 points of second-placed Inter Milan, who host in-form Milan in the derby later.

This was Osimhen’s fifth consecutive game in the league. The Nigeria striker scored seven goals in that period, taking his tally to 16 in the league.

Spezia defended well against Napoli’s stellar attack but awarded the visitors a penalty less than 10 seconds into the break when defender Arkadiusz Reca was trying to block Matteo Politano but didn’t expect the ball to rebound into his outstretched arm. .

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia scored the penalty kick, forcing the match to open up. Osimhen had ruled out a goal in the 62nd minute to pull Mattia Caldara back but he headed in his first goal in the 68th minute and doubled his tally five minutes later after another pass from Kvaratskylia.

Spezia remained five points above the relegation zone.
