Oil and Environment Minister meets COP26 President

London, October 1 (BNA) The Minister of Oil and Environment, the Special Envoy for Climate Affairs, Dr. Muhammad bin Mubarak bin Dina, met the Minister in the Cabinet Office and the President of the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 26). Sharma during his visit to the United Kingdom.

Dr. Bin Dina affirmed the Kingdom of Bahrain’s commitment to allocating the necessary resources and exchanging knowledge and technical expertise through joint collaborative approaches to intensify action on climate change and build capacity in the pursuit of climate security and building a sustainable and resilient future.

He highlighted the Kingdom’s wide-ranging efforts to meet its commitments to achieve net zero emissions by 2060 and reduce carbon emissions by 30% by 2035 through decarbonization and efficiency initiatives that include doubling afforestation in the Kingdom, and quadrupling mangroves. Doubling renewable energy targets, increasing energy efficiency and direct investment in carbon capture technologies.

The two sides discussed areas of cooperation and joint efforts focused on enhancing environmental protection and combating the global impacts of climate change, in addition to adopting a circular carbon economy based on sustainable and climate-neutral growth.

Dr. Bin Dina also expressed the Kingdom’s readiness for a fruitful participation in the upcoming 27th annual Conference of Parties (COP 27), which is scheduled to be held in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, in November of this year.
