Nunez earns points for Liverpool, Man Utd outclass Tottenham

Liverpool, Oct. 20 (BNA): Liverpool maintained their new momentum as Darwin Nunez scored the only goal in the 1-0 win over West Ham United in the Premier League, but Tottenham Hotspur suffered a sobering test of 2-0 loss against Manchester United.

Chelsea’s four straight league winning streak ended as they drew 0-0 with Brentford.

Impressive Newcastle United cemented their place in the top six with a 1-0 home win against struggling Everton.

Southampton eased some of the pressure on coach Ralph Hessenhuttl with a 1-0 win over South Coast rivals Bournemouth to break out of the relegation zone, Reuters reported.

Liverpool’s 1-0 win over champions Manchester City at the weekend looked like the start of their faltering season, but they were forced to work extra hard by West Ham.

In the end they were thankful for the summer signing of Nunez’s first goal at Anfield for the club, a brilliant header down in the 22nd minute from a cross by Costas Tsimikas.

Nunez also shook the post with a fierce shot, but West Ham could easily have gotten a point.

Alisson saved Jarrod Bowen’s penalty just before the end of the first half, while Thomas Sojic and Said Benrahma had great chances for the visitors late on.

Liverpool climbed to seventh place with 16 points from 10 matches, two points behind Newcastle and three behind Manchester United.

“I’m not standing here thinking it should be an easy game for us, but we got the result and I think we deserved it,” said Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, who was shown a red card during the win over City. “Luck wasn’t always on our side, but we might have had today, or Ali, and yet you want to look at it.
