No FA Cup upsets for EPL clubs Leeds and Leicester

LONDON, Jan. 28 (BNA): Leeds and Leicester avoided potential upset to qualify for the fifth round of the FA Cup on Saturday, but survival in the Premier League remains a priority for both clubs.

Leeds beat third-tier Accrington Stanley 3-1, while Leicester beat fourth-tier Walsall 1-0, reports the Associated Press.

The wins provided a temporary distraction for both sides who each sit just one point above the relegation zone in the league.

Goals from Jack Harrison, Junior Firpo and Leeds’ Luis Sinistra ended any chance of an Accrington fairytale in front of their home fans at WAM.

But Leslie Adekoya gave them something to cheer about with a belated consolation goal.

It was only Leeds’ second win since the 5th of November, both of those victories having come in the cup.

Leicester – cup winners in 2021 – needed a 68th-minute goal from Kelechi Iheanacho to end Walsall’s resistance in a game that also saw Youri Tielemans miss a penalty.

It was Leicester’s only other win since December 20 in the previous round of the cup.

While the chance of silverware remains a possibility for both Leeds and Leicester, the struggle to maintain their top-flight status is a much bigger concern.
