Ninth Bahraini Farmers’ Market opens

Manama, December 25 (BNA) The Minister of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning, Issam bin Abdullah Khalaf, said that this year’s Bahraini Farmers’ Market celebrates healthy diets as a source of sustainability, hence the market’s slogan “Our Food… Our Health”.

This came during the minister’s speech during the opening of the ninth edition of the Bahraini Farmers Market, in the presence of the Undersecretary for Agriculture and Marine Resources at the Ministry of Labour, Ibrahim Al-Hawaj, Secretary-General of the National Initiative for Agricultural Development (Niad). Sheikha Maram bint Isa Al Khalifa and a number of officials.

The ninth edition of the market, held in the Budaiya Botanical Garden, attracts 37 farmers and four agricultural companies.

Khalaf renewed the commitment of the Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning to provide all kinds of support to Bahraini farmers, in line with the directives of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince. His Highness the Amir and the Prime Minister indicated that the Bahraini Farmers’ Market is an important platform for marketing the products of Bahraini farmers.

The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Marine Resources stressed the keenness of the Ministry of Works to harness all capabilities to make the market successful and support the agricultural sector affiliates, based on the directives of the Minister of Works, praising the support of Nyad and its partnership in ensuring the success of such a national event.

He pointed out that this year’s farmers market is exceptional in light of the ongoing conditions imposed by the emerging corona virus pandemic, noting that the event organizers are keen to implement the health requirements set by the national medical task force to combat the corona virus in order to preserve safety. The Secretary General of NAID, Sheikha Maram bint Isa Al Khalifa, expressed her happiness at the resumption of the Bahraini farmers market to be an incentive for Bahraini farmers to increase their products and compete with imported ones.

Sheikha Maram commended the Ministry of Works for its firm keenness to support Bahraini farmers by providing them with outlets to market their products.

The Bahraini Farmers Market is back for its ninth edition at the Budaiya Botanical Garden after a year-long hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It will be open from 7:00 to 13:00 every Saturday, until March 27, 2022.

The farmers market includes several sections for farmers, nurseries and agricultural companies, in addition to a section for productive families, a corner for dates and another for honey.

The special exhibition of Bahraini agricultural heritage was opened for the first time in the market, which displays agricultural machines that were used in the past in agriculture, plowing, planting and harvesting, in line with the organizers’ keenness to perpetuate Bahrain’s well-established agricultural memory. reputation.

An exhibition of pictures related to agriculture was also opened, in appreciation of those who contributed to making Bahrain a green paradise and the country of one million palm trees throughout history.
