Cairo, March 1 (BNA): The President of the National Institution for Human Rights, Ali Ahmed Al-Derazi, participated in the International Solidarity Conference and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development – Goal 16: Peace, justice and strong institutions. .
Representatives of members of the Arab Network of National Human Rights Institutions, the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions, the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, as well as the United Nations Development Program, participated in the two-day international event. , which was held in Cairo.
The conference discussed the interrelationships between international solidarity and the implementation of the sustainable development goals, especially Goal 16.
It also discussed measures related to strengthening the role of national institutions in protecting human rights, enabling them to implement and follow up the implementation of the sustainable development goals, and encouraging international cooperation and solidarity to activate the implementation of the 2030 sustainable development agenda.
Al-Darazi expressed his hope that the conference will come up with recommendations and an action plan to follow up on their implementation through a working group formed by the relevant stakeholders.
The committee will guide the national human rights institutions in cooperating among them, as well as in enhancing their role and assuming their responsibilities in order to further implement the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.
About 250 participants, including representatives of the League of Arab States, the Arab Parliament, Egypt, the host country, statistical institutions and organizations, parliamentarians, human rights institutes, international and national human rights organizations, civil society organizations, academic institutions, and development partners, participated in the international event. .
