Novak Djokovic to face Cachin in Wimbledon opener, Elena Rybakina up against Rogers

London, June 30 (BNA) Defending women’s champion Elena Rybakina will face American Shelby Rogers in the opening round at Wimbledon, while men’s second seed Novak Djokovic will start his title defense against Argentine Pedro Cashin, seeded 67.

Friday’s draw at the All England Club pitted women’s top seed Iga Swiatek against China’s 33rd seed Zhou Lin, a tough first hurdle for the pole vaulter.

Second seed Aryna Sabalenkoi will open her campaign against Hungarian Bana Udvardy, reports Reuters.

American veteran Venus Williams takes on Ukrainian Elena Svitolina in one of the standout matches of the opening round as home favorite Andy Murray plays home favorite Andy Murray, bidding for an unlikely third title at 36, British wildcard Ryan Peniston.

Murray could face fifth seed Stefanos Tsitsipas in the second round although Tsitsipas must move past former US Open champion Dominic Thiem who has slipped down the world rankings.

American teenager Coco Gauff, who many are raving about in the long run, has a tough opening match against former French Open champion and compatriot Sofia Kenin.

Djokovic, who won the last four men’s titles at Wimbledon and is seeking to match Roger Federer’s eight, is not the top seed this year after being replaced at the top of the rankings by Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz.

Alcaraz, who geared up to win the title at Queen’s Club last week, has a tough start against veteran Frenchman Jeremy Chardy.

Last year’s runner-up Nick Kyrgios, who did not play hard this year, and his participation is questionable due to injury, plays the dangerous Belgian substitute David Goffin in a strong match in the first round.
