LMRA chief hails Bahrain’s success in retaining Tier-1 status for 6th straight year

Manama, June 15 (BNA): The Kingdom of Bahrain maintained its first-class status in the US State Department’s Trafficking in Persons Report 2023 for the sixth year in a row.

The TiP Report assesses the efforts of governments around the world in combating human trafficking, and Tier 1 status reflects a country’s full compliance with the standards implemented by the US Trafficking Victims Protection Act.

On this occasion, the CEO of the Labor Market Regulatory Authority, Nouf Abdulrahman Jamsheer, attributed this international recognition to the vision of the leadership and the commitment of the Government of Bahrain to support and protect the principles of human rights and fight all forms of human rights. She stressed that maintaining the “Tier-1” rank for the sixth year in a row is evidence of the effectiveness of Bahrain’s labor market policies and projects.

She highlighted the efforts made by the Government of Bahrain, including the Employment Registration Program, which was launched in 2022 to ensure labor rights and combat irregular practices, as well as the establishment of the Victims and Witnesses Protection Office, to protect victims and witnesses in human cases. smuggling.

The CEO of the Labor Market Regulatory Authority added that the government also established the national referral mechanism for vulnerable migrants, established the Migrant Protection Center, established the Wage Protection System, and established the Regional Center of Excellence for capacity-building in the field of combating human trafficking, in cooperation with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime and the International Organization for Migration .

Jamsheer pointed out that the Kingdom is also home to the first prosecution in the region to combat human trafficking and specializes in human trafficking cases, pointing to the effective cooperation between government agencies and the National Committee for Combating Human Trafficking, which includes representatives from various segments of the government. and society.
