Philadelphia, Jul. 5 (BNA) Ten people were killed and 38 injured in mass shootings in Philadelphia, Baltimore and Fort Worth ahead of the Fourth of July holiday, officials said, prompting President Joe Biden to pass gun control legislation.
Police said on Tuesday that three people were killed and eight wounded in a mass shooting in Fort Worth after a local celebration marking US Independence Day.
In a separate mass shooting in Philadelphia on Monday night, five people were killed and two wounded, including a two-year-old and a 13-year-old boy, both of whom were shot in the legs, when a suspect was in the body. A shield and an AR-15 gunman opened fire on strangers, according to local police.
The Monday night shooting came a day after two people were killed and 28 others wounded, nearly half of them children, in a hail of gunfire at a Baltimore apartment party.
The motives for the last three shootings remained unclear.
The United States grapples with a high number of mass shootings and incidents of gun violence.
There have been more than 340 mass shootings in the country so far in 2023, according to data collected by the Gun Violence Archive, which defines a mass shooting as an incident in which at least four people were shot, excluding the shooter.
Biden denounced the violence on Tuesday and renewed his calls for tougher gun laws in America.
“Our nation has once again suffered a tragic and senseless shooting spree,” Biden said in a statement, calling on Republican lawmakers to “sit to the negotiating table on reforms that make sense and make sense.”
