Manama, July 11 (BNA): The National Institution for Human Rights today inaugurated the role of the “Child Rights Commissioner” in a consultative session for stakeholders.
Last week, Ali Ahmed Al-Derazi, head of the National Institution for Human Rights, announced the appointment of Dr. Houria Abbas to this position. An event that deals with issues facing children, and support policies to ensure a healthy environment for them.
The ceremony was attended by Sheikh Khalid bin Ali Al Khalifa, Vice President of the Supreme Judicial Council and President of the Court of Cassation, who witnessed the exchange of ideas and visions on best practices aimed at developing a mechanism to defend the rights of the child.
Ali Ahmed Al-Derazi, President of the National Institution for Human Rights, stressed the importance of spreading awareness of the principles of human rights and fundamental freedoms, including children’s rights, which are among the priorities of the institution’s work and are in line with the Paris Principles related to the situation of human rights. “Bahrain is witnessing remarkable progress in the field of human rights in general, and children’s rights in particular, guided by the vision of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, and the follow-up of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, and the role played by all ministries,” said bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister. Al-Derazi thanked the NIHR’s supporters, stressing the importance of the institutions’ partnerships with various sectors and organizations that aim to serve the institution’s goals.
Roddy Drummond, UK Ambassador to Bahrain, delivered a speech during the event in which he thanked the National Institute for Human Rights for organizing the event and affirmed his support for its efforts.

Promoting and protecting children’s rights is everyone’s responsibility. The Commissioner for Children’s Rights, Dr. Houria Abbas, gave a presentation on her role in dealing with issues facing children and how to work to protect and promote their best interests by supporting policies and legislation concerned with protecting their rights, within the framework of the mandate. from NIHR.
“The rights of the child in Bahrain are clear and mentioned in many laws and legislations, and through this position we seek to be the unified and free voice for children, as we listen to their opinions and suggestions and investigate their complaints. The event hosted Kola Yasoma, former Northern Ireland Commissioner for Children and Youth to share her experience in her previous position.
It also included the exchange of ideas and visions on best practices aimed at developing a mechanism for defending children’s rights, following up and monitoring issues related to their protection, and strengthening the capabilities of all relevant official bodies and civil society institutions to work on creating them.
