Bahrain hosts Biodiversity, Climate Change and Nature-Based Solutions workshop

Manama, July 16 (BNA): The International Fund for Animal Welfare, in cooperation with the Supreme Council for the Environment, organized a workshop entitled “Biodiversity, Climate Change and Nature-Based Solutions”. Under the auspices of Dr. Mohammed bin Mubarak bin Dinah, Minister of Oil and Environment, Special Envoy for Climate Affairs and CEO of the Authority.

Thirty-four decision makers, technical experts and international negotiators in the field of biodiversity and climate change are invited to participate in the workshop.

Representatives from 16 countries in the Middle East and North Africa region participated in the workshop to discuss positive and sustainable solutions to climate change, inspired by nature, ahead of the twenty-eighth session of the Conference of the Parties (COP28) to be held in the United Arab Emirates.

The workshop focused on how to develop cooperation between the countries of the Middle East and North Africa to achieve a mutual agreement or decision related to nature-based solutions that the parties can adopt during their participation in the Climate Summit (COP28).

Minister Dr. Bin Dinah said that the organization of this workshop reflects Bahrain’s commitment to reaching zero neutrality by 2060 and its efforts to adapt and mitigate the negative effects of climate change, based on the sustainable development goals that support Bahrain’s Economic Vision 2030.

The minister said that the countries of the Middle East and North Africa are highly vulnerable to climate change, and that this workshop is able to highlight the role that these countries can play in addressing the climate crisis proactively by protecting, restoring and managing biodiversity effectively, and will also support them in finding diversity biological. Methods of collective action to influence international politics in (COP28).

Simon Addison, climate change advisor at the International Federation of Women (IFAW), praised the continuous cooperation and coordination between the Authority for Continuing Education and the International Federation of Women in Bahrain and the interest in issues related to international policies, combating wildlife crimes and trafficking in them, preserving marine life and efforts to save them. Wildlife.

He stressed the need to support the achievements of green, climate-resilient economic development, which aims to raise international ambition regarding the provision of nature-based solutions at (COP28) and beyond.

The workshop includes discussions on creating a common understanding of the impacts of climate change and biodiversity loss and how they relate to nature, and developing effective nature-based solutions that support green economic development to combat climate change by 2050.
