Manama, June 20 (BNA): Government hospitals affirmed, on the International Day for Sickle Cell Anemia, their continuous efforts to provide comprehensive services and care for patients with sickle cell anemia.
He stressed the importance of strengthening partnerships to increase the services provided based on the latest technologies in this field, and to continue developing the health sector and services for patients with diabetes of both types, in cooperation with expert advisory entities.
Bahrain is at the forefront of countries that have made great achievements in the field of sustainable development, while giving utmost importance to the health and safety of all, and providing comprehensive health services to all of its residents, Dr. Ahmed Al-Ansari, governmental. said the hospital’s CEO.
Dr. Al-Ansari explained the services provided by government hospitals to patients with diabetes through the Center for Genetic Blood Disorders at the Salmaniya Medical Center. These services are provided by a multidisciplinary team and include diagnosis, treatment, follow-up, blood transfusion and psychological support.
Medical services provided to patients include internal medicine, chronic pain treatment, nutrition, physiotherapy, orthopedics and dentistry, in addition to social services.
Health care for patients with sickle cell disease began 50 years ago, with the beginning of the health infrastructure in Bahrain.
In 1984, the government developed a comprehensive national strategy for diagnostic, social and cultural studies.
Bahrain’s efforts have yielded positive results over the years. The proportion of newborns with sickle cell anemia decreased to 0.6% annually.
The death rate decreased by 43%, while an improvement occurred by 35% in chronic disease treatment rates by changing the treatment method from injections to tablets, which led to stabilizing the daily pain rate and improving the quality of life of patients.
A team has been set up to follow up on patients directly via WhatsApp. An average of 25,000 messages are exchanged annually.
