Pulisic scores twice as US beats Mexico 3-0 in CONCACAF Nations League

Washington, June 16 (BNA) Christian Pulisic scored late in the first half and early in the second, Ricardo Pepe added a goal late on and the United States beat Mexico 3-0 on Thursday night to reach the CONCACAF Nations League final against Canada.

Pulisic made his first start for club or country since April 15, putting the United States ahead in the 37th minute and doubling their lead in the 46th minute, according to the Associated Press.

He has 25 goals in 59 international matches, including four against Mexico. Pepe scored in the 79th minute, five minutes after coming on.

The United States and Mexico both finished with nine players after Weston McKinney, Serginho Dest, Cesar Montes and Gerardo Arteaga were shown red cards in a difficult second half.

With their first three-goal victory over Mexico in 23 years, the USA extended their unbeaten streak against El Tri to six (three wins, three draws), matching the Americans’ longest win, from 2011-15.

Folarin Balogun made his debut, starting at forward after the 21-year-old decided to play the United States over England and Nigeria.

The USA took the lead when Gio Reina tipped the ball off Montes and then, while prone, pushed it forward from Jorge Sanchez.

Pulisic sprinted behind the defenders, took two touches and, from the edge of the 6-yard penalty area, volleyed the ball past goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa.
