Seven killed in building collapse in Ivory Coast

Abidjan July 2 (BNA): A six-storey building collapsed during construction in Ivory Coast’s commercial capital Abidjan on Friday, killing at least seven construction workers at the site, firefighters on the scene said.

Masonry and construction worker Jourdin Yoro said workers heard crackling sounds around midday local time and the building began to collapse around them.

“In a hurry, we started running,” said Yuru. Within 45 seconds, the building collapsed.

Rescue efforts continued at the site in Abidjan’s upscale Riviera Palmeraie district on Saturday, as emergency workers sifted through a large pile of concrete and debris.

Charles Paolo, the chief of the fire brigade at the scene, said nine other people were injured in the collapse.
