Apartment building collapse kills 14 in Brazil

Brasília, July 8 (BNA) The collapse of an apartment building in northeastern Brazil killed 14 people, according to civil defense officials, on Saturday, while the last two were found missing without life.

The collapse occurred on Friday in the Ganja neighborhood on the outskirts of Recife, capital of the northeastern state of Pernambuco, according to Reuters.

The apartment building collapsed during heavy rain that hit the area while many residents were still asleep.

According to a statement from the Civil Defense, three people survived the collapse, the causes of which are still ambiguous. Officials had reported eight deaths on Friday.
