Moderna COVID-19 shots now an option for older kids in US

New York, June 25 (BUS): There is now a second option for COVID-19 for children aged 6-17 in the United States, the Associated Press (AP) reports.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced Friday that it recommends Moderna shots as an option for school-aged children and teens. This group has been able to get footage from Pfizer since last year.

The CDC sets federal government vaccine guidelines for American doctors and their patients.

Last week, the Food and Drug Administration allowed injections — full-strength doses for children ages 12 to 17 and half-strength for children ages 6 to 11. Doses should be given for about a month. This week an expert advisory panel voted unanimously to recommend that the CDC endorse Moderna’s shots as well.

Moderna officials said they expect to later provide a booster dose for all children ages 6 to 17.
