Sao Paulo/Rio de Janeiro, June 20 (BNA): At least one student was killed in a school shooting in the southern Brazilian city of Campi on Monday, the Paraná state government said in a statement, adding that another injured student was hospitalized.

The government said the perpetrator, a former student of Professor Helena Collodi Public School, had entered its premises saying he wanted to request his school records.

Governor Ratino Jr. declared three days of mourning and sent the Secretaries of Public Safety and Education to Campi, a city of 108,000 residents located 400 kilometers (250 mi) from Paraná’s capital, Curitiba.
Brazil’s President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said it was critical that the country find a way to build peace in schools.

“Another young woman’s life has been subjected to hate and violence that we can no longer bear within our schools and in society,” Lula said in a tweet.

Earlier this year, a man armed with a small ax scaled a wall into a nursery school in southern Brazil and killed four children, while at a school in São Paulo a 13-year-old student stabbed a teacher to death and injured five others.

Justice Minister Flavio Dino said after the attack that “this kind of violence that was sown in Brazil is unacceptable,” adding that “violence is perpetrated again in the most sacred place for children.”
