Indian president hails Muslim World League’s role to enhance tolerance

Cairo, July 13 (BNA): The Secretary-General of the Muslim World League, Dr. Muhammad bin Abdul Karim Al-Essa, received Indian President Smit Draupadi Mormo in Rashtrapati Bhavan today, Wednesday.

The Indian Embassy in Cairo said in a press release that the president said that India appreciates the role and goals of the Muslim World League in promoting tolerant values, moderation of awareness and interfaith dialogue, the Middle East News Agency (MENA) reported.

She said India, as a multicultural, multilingual, ethnic and religious society, celebrates unity in diversity. More than 200 million of our Indian Muslim brothers and sisters make us the country with the second largest Muslim population in the world.

The President said that India attaches great importance to its relationship with Saudi Arabia. The two countries have a long history of friendly relations rooted in trade and people-to-people ties. She added that both countries have valuable teachings to share with the world.

The President said that India and Saudi Arabia condemn terrorism in all its forms and call for “zero tolerance” for terrorism.

They agreed that a comprehensive approach is needed to combat terrorism and violent extremism, and that is only possible by engaging with moderate schools of thought.

The President appreciated Dr. Al-Issa’s position against extremism, terrorism and violence. She expressed confidence that his visit to India would provide more avenues for cooperation with the Muslim World League.
