US central command says it killed ISIS leader in Eastern Syria

Washington, July 9 (BNA): The US Central Command said today, Sunday, that it carried out a drone strike on July 7 that killed one of the leaders of the Islamic State in eastern Syria.

It said in a statement that it used the same MQ-9 drones in the attack, which “earlier today was harassed by Russian planes in a confrontation that lasted nearly two hours.”

It added, “US Central Command carried out a strike in Syria, killing Osama al-Muhajir, the leader of ISIS in eastern Syria,” without giving further details about al-Muhajir.

“We have made it clear that we remain committed to defeating ISIS across the region,” the commander of US Central Command, Gen. Michael Korella, was quoted as saying.
