Global food price index rises for third consecutive month

London, June 7 (BNA): The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) reported that its global food price index rose for the third consecutive month in May. The increase was driven by higher prices for cereals and dairy products, which offset declines in sugar and vegetable oil prices.

FAO stated that its food price index, which tracks monthly changes in the international prices of commonly traded food commodities, averaged 120.4 points in May, a 0.9 percent increase from the revised April level.
