BTS wins top prize at Golden Disc Awards for 5th consecutive year

Seoul, Jan. 9 (BUS): K-pop superstars BTS on Saturday won first prize in the album category at the prestigious annual South Korean Music Awards.

BTS won “Album of the Year” at the 36th Golden Disc Awards at the Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul with their album “BE”. It was the fifth year in a row that the band won first prize in the album category.

“We want to share this honor with ARMY who always supports us,” BTS leader RM said in a video message. ARMY refers to fans of BTS. “This album we have started from the planning stage to offer condolences in the event of the novel coronavirus pandemic,” South Korea’s Yonhap News Agency reported.

Meanwhile, K-pop songstress IU won #1 in the Digital Songs section with her hit songs “Celebrity”, “LILAC” and “Strawberry Moon”, receiving the “Digital Song of the Year” honor for the second year in a row.

The girl groups Aespa and STACYC shared the Best Newbie award.

The 36th Golden Disc Awards winners were chosen from the albums and songs released between November 2020 and November 2021.
