Manama, June 18 (BNA): The Labor Fund (Tamkeen) signed a cooperation agreement with the Shaikh Ebrahim bin Mohammed Al Khalifa Center for Culture and Research within the framework of the Bahraini skills development strategy in the field of basic sciences and information technology. Number of University of Bahrain (UoB) students at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) as part of the Global-Ready Talent Empowerment Programme.
The agreement was signed in the presence of Shaikha Mai bint Mohammed Al Khalifa, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Sheikh Ibrahim bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, and CEO of Tamkeen Maha Movies.
The European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) is one of the world’s leading bodies for fundamental particle physics research, scientific discovery, technology and innovation, and operates the largest laboratories worldwide, including one of its largest projects, the Large Hadron Collider where thousands of scientists from all over the world live. This participation offers Bahraini students at CERN a unique job and collaboration opportunity to establish networks and relationships with the most famous scientific researchers in the world and to be part of scientific experiments on a global scale. This also strengthens the Kingdom of Bahrain’s position as an active member of CERN projects and promotes Bahraini talent at the international level in the fields of technology, innovation and scientific discovery.
According to the agreement, UoB students will be trained at CERN headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland for a period of 12 months as part of the Global-Ready Talent Programme. The program aims to accelerate the professional development of the participants by providing on-the-job training in various prestigious institutions around the world, which contributes to enhancing the skills, knowledge and competitiveness of the local workforce.
On this occasion, Her Excellency Shaikha Mai bint Mohammed Al Khalifa said: “This cooperation between the Research Center in Elementary Particle Physics of the Shaikh Ebrahim bin Mohammed Al Khalifa Center for Culture and Research and the Labor Fund (Tamkeen) will provide a great opportunity for University of Bahrain students to conduct research projects and attend training and the Science Center world leader, CERN, enabling them to enhance their knowledge and skills in technology and innovation, specifically in basic sciences, engineering and computing.”
Maha Moves also highlighted the importance of giving Bahrainis the opportunity to gain international exposure, saying: “This agreement is in line with our ultimate goal of honing the skills and enriching the experience of Bahraini professionals, particularly in the fast-growing ICT sector. We encourage individuals to broaden their horizons and open up to the world.” We will continue our endeavors to identify more valuable opportunities for unique Bahraini talents.”
To date, Tamkeen has partnered with many international companies as part of the Global-Ready Talent program that provided 48 Bahrainis with on-the-job training opportunities in various headquarters of these companies, including Fives Group, Arla Foods, Citibank, SABIC, and Prodrive International. . The program supports the career progression of the participants, and prepares them for leadership positions in the future.
This initiative comes as an extension of Tamkeen’s strategic priorities for this year, which are based on four main pillars: facilitating increased economic participation of Bahrainis, providing training that is in line with labor market needs in new and emerging skills, as well as supporting growth. And the development of institutions and the development of the ecosystem, all of which lead to positive economic impact and sustainable growth.
