National Committee for Combatting Trafficking in Persons convenes

Manama, January 23 (BNA) on the occasion of the issuance of Minister of Foreign Affairs Decision No. (1) of 2022 regarding the formation of the National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking and in implementation of the provisions of Article (8) of the law. 1) For the year 2008, the National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking held its first meeting, headed by the CEO of the Labor Market Regulatory Authority Jamal Abdul Aziz Al-Alawi.

The meeting was attended by members of the committee representing the Ministry of Interior, Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Labor and Social Development, the Ministry of Information Affairs and the Labor Market Regulatory Authority in the Arab Republic of Egypt. In addition to a number of civil society organizations.

The Chairman of the Committee opened the meeting by welcoming the attendees and congratulating them on the confidence granted to them to be members of the National Committee to Combat Trafficking in Persons who represent the relevant authorities in the Kingdom.

Al-Alawi expressed his sincere thanks and gratitude to the former chairman and members of the committee during their work period for their dedicated efforts that contributed to achieving the desired achievements and goals.

Khalil Muhammad Al-Khayat, Acting Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Consular and Administrative Affairs, was chosen to occupy the position of Vice-Chairman of the Committee, given his long experience in this field.

Al-Alawi stressed that the re-formation of the National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking comes as a continuation of the continuous mechanism adopted by the Kingdom of Bahrain in the field of combating human trafficking and the strenuous efforts made by the Kingdom in this field, especially in this field. Through the launch of the wage protection system in May 2021 to ensure that the financial rights of workers are met, and the launch of the first regional program to combat human trafficking affiliated with the Training and Capacity Building Center, in addition to the launch of the voluntary insurance system for domestic workers.

The Chairman of the Committee said: “The Committee is expected to exert double efforts and greater roles to maintain the progress made and make maximum efforts to achieve more gains to maintain the Kingdom’s leading position at the regional and global levels.

The meeting discussed a number of topics on the agenda, foremost of which was the reform committee’s decision to appoint a vice president. The meeting also reviewed the committee’s internal system and the position of its secretary. The meeting also reviewed the various aspects of combating human trafficking in the Kingdom of Bahrain, the policy adopted in this regard and its pillars that make Bahrain’s experience an ideal model for best practices regionally and internationally.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Al-Alawi expressed the committee members’ keenness to make additional efforts within the framework of the national strategy to combat human trafficking to achieve the desired goals of preserving the Kingdom’s position regionally and globally in combating human trafficking through the proper implementation of the tasks and responsibilities assigned to the committee by law.
