Monthly weather summary issued

Manama, May 10 / BNA / The Directorate of Meteorology at the Ministry of Transport and Communications stated in its monthly weather report that the month of April 2022 was warmer than usual with lower than average temperatures and wind speeds.

The average temperature for the month was 27.3°C which is 1.3°C above the long-term normal for the month of April and this records as the fourth highest average temperature for the month of April since 1902. Note that the highest average monthly temperature for the month April was 27.7 °C recorded in 2021.


The average maximum temperature for the month was 31.9°C which is 1.3°C above the long-term normal and this records as the fifth highest average maximum temperature for the month of April since 1946. Note that the highest monthly average maximum temperature for the month of April It was 33.3 degrees Celsius recorded in 2021.


The highest temperature during the month was 38.1 degrees Celsius which was recorded on the 7th of April at Bahrain International Airport (BIA), but it recorded 39.7 degrees Celsius on the 13th of April at the Bahrain International Circuit.


The average minimum temperature for the month was 23.4°C which is 1.0°C above the long-term normal and this records as the fifth highest average minimum temperature for the month of April since 1946. Note that the highest monthly average minimum temperatures for the month April was 24.1 degrees Celsius recorded in 2010 and 2017.

The lowest temperature was 20.3 ° C on April 1 at Bahrain International Airport, but it recorded 16.5 ° C on the same night at Durrat Al Bahrain.


The average relative humidity for April was 45% while the average maximum relative humidity was 66% and the average minimum relative humidity was 24%. The highest relative humidity was 80% on April 30 and the lowest relative humidity was 7% on April 19.


Only 0.1 mm of rain was reported in April 2022 at Bahrain International Airport. Tracking quantities were recorded on April 26 and 28. Note that the long-term average total precipitation for the month of April is 5.8 mm and the highest monthly precipitation recorded during the month of April at Bahrain International Airport was 69.9 mm which occurred in 1961.


The total rainfall for the month of April 2022 in Durrat Al Bahrain was 0.8 mm, while the total rainfall in King Fahd Causeway and Sitra Island was 0.2 mm and no precipitation was recorded in the Bahrain International Center and the University of Bahrain.


The total hours of sunshine for the month was 277.3 hours. Note that the highest total number of hours of sunshine for the month of April was 318.1 hours recorded in 2017.


The average wind speed for April was 8 knots. The prevailing wind was 35% from the northwest direction. The wind speed reached 35 knots on the 29th of April at Bahrain International Airport and Durrat Al Bahrain. East and southeast winds accounted for 19% of the observed percentage.

Dust was reported on April 25th. Visibility decreased to 1200 meters at Bahrain International Airport.


April is a seasonal transitional period from winter to summer which is usually associated with unstable weather known locally as sarayat, which extends until mid-May.
