Pasadena, June 26 (US): Michelle Morgan of “The Young and the Restless” has won the lead role in the drama, becoming the first black actor to win a major category at the Daytime Emmys Friday night.
Morgan was previously nominated in the Support category. The 35-year-old from Trinidad and Tobago plays Amanda Sinclair on CBS TV, according to the Associated Press.
“I am honored no matter what color my skin is, no matter what my passport is, for being the best at what I do,” Morgan said. “Now there are young girls all over the world who are going one step further and knowing that no matter what their field of work, no matter what their profession, no matter what, they can strive to be the best at what they do. Not only can they make it happen, they will be celebrate them.”
John McCook earned leading actor honors for his role as Eric Forrester in the CBS series The Bold and the Beautiful. It was the 78-year-old’s first win with four nominations.
“I am very happy to receive an Emmy, an Emmy award actually,” he said.
“General Hospital” earned the daytime drama honors, the 15th ABC show victory in this category. This was the show’s fifth trophy on Friday.
Morgan is on her second assignment on Y&R. She first joined the series in 2013 and stayed until 2018. She returned in 2019 as a different character.
“I am so proud of our generation. We break glass ceilings left, right and center, and I am so honored to be a ship and experience this moment.” “It is because of everyone who is out there today who is proving to the world that we can and will do this thing called equality and unity together.”
Three stars from “General Hospital” won honors, and the series’ production team won for the third year in a row.
Kelly Thiebaud was cast as a supporting actress to play Dr. Brett Westbourne and Jeff Cooper scored as a supporting actor for his role as Cyrus Reno. Nicholas Chavez won as a Younger Soap performer.
“Fabulous!” Chavez said. “A little over a year ago I was selling cars in a small Florida beach town. I have always had the love and support of my family, but none of us had ever dreamed of being on this platform.”
The cheerful Thiebaud won her first nomination.
“I can’t believe it. I’m so shocked,” she said. “My brother, when I first started acting, he went on with my work and was like, ‘You’re not that good.’ So thank you for giving me something to rub it in.”
Cooper is best known for his extensive filmography and his primetime work on shows such as Sons of Anarchy and The Walking Dead.
“Wow, thank you for making me feel so welcome in broad daylight. What a trip,” he said. “I love what we have to do for a living, it’s play.”
NBC’s “Days of Our Lives” team won for the writing team.
Kelly Clarkson earned her third consecutive title as an entertainment talk show host. Her eponymous show also won its second consecutive cup for an entertainment talk show. The singer spends the summer with her children and did not attend.
Tamron Hall earned her second consecutive trophy as a handy talk show host.
Steve Harvey from “Family Feud” won as a game show host.
“Risk!” Game Show won honors.
“‘Risk!’ It is a show about facts,” said Executive Producer Michael Davis. “The facts, with everything happening in the world, are more important than ever. ‘Danger!’ It is the last place where everyone agrees on the facts.”
Ms. Susan Lucci, who starred in All My Children during the show’s 41-year run, received a standing ovation. She presented the clip In Memoriam, which included a photo of her husband Helmet Huber, who died in March. Michael Bolton released his song “How I Supposed to Live Without You”.
John Aniston of “Days of Our Lives” has been honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award for his 37-year role as Victor Kyriakis. The 88-year-old actor was not there.

Two of the candidates from “The Young and the Restless” were forced to step down. Leading actor nominee Jason Thompson, who plays Billy Abbott, and supporting actress nominee Melissa Ordway, who plays Abby Newman, have said on social media that they have tested positive for COVID-19 and that they will miss the show.
Kevin Frazier and Nischelle Turner of “Entertainment Tonight” co-hosted the 49th Annual Awards Gala held at the Pasadena Convention Center, with several nominees seated at cocktail tables away from the community while others sat in rows next to each other.
Frazier and Turner found themselves accepting a Daytime Emmy when ET won for an entertainment news series.
Turner opened the show by noting the Supreme Court that struck down women’s constitutional protections for abortion earlier on Friday. She flatly told Frasier that her “choice” was that she should wear her blue dress. The crowd cheered and some women stood up.
Co-nominee actress Nancy Lee Grahn of “General Hospital” walked the indoor red carpet wearing nods to the news of the day. She had a temporary tattoo that read “Reproductive Freedom” on her chest, the word “Choice” on her stud earring and carried a black bag that read “Ban Our Bodies” with rhinestones.
“I wouldn’t dare go into this process without speaking out about the devastation that happened to me today and what a dark day for the women of this country,” said the 66-year-old actress. “We will not allow this, we will not defend it.”
