Las Vegas, Dec. 25 (BUS) – Microsoft Corporation (MSFT.O) said Friday that it will not participate in person at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2022 in Las Vegas, joining the list of companies choosing not to own. Attendees at next month’s event due to concerns about the rapid spread of the Omicron COVID-19 variant.
The US software giant added that it will continue to participate in CES remotely, according to an emailed statement. Reuters reported that The Verge was the first to report on Friday that Microsoft will not actually participate in CES.
Several other companies including General Motors of America (GM.N) and Alphabet Inc. (GOOGL.O) Google and self-driving car technology company Waymo, Facebook’s parent company Meta Platforms Inc (FB.O), and Twitter Inc. (TWTR.N), Lenovo Group (0992.HK), AT&T Inc (TN), and Amazon.com Inc dropped plans for in-person attendance earlier this week.
CES officials said Thursday that the event will continue in person from January 5-8 with “strong security measures in place,” which include requirements for vaccination, concealment and availability of COVID-19 tests.
