Mediterranean Islamic Finance Forum highlights Islamic finance opportunities post COVID-19

Manama, November 18 (BNA): The General Council of Islamic Banks and Financial Institutions (CIBAFI) and the official global representative of Islamic financial institutions (IFIs) and the Federation of Mediterranean Chambers of Commerce and Industry (ASCAME). The Barcelona Chamber of Commerce held the Sixth Forum on Islamic Finance in the Mediterranean Region​ (MIFF) approx.

This year’s online forum focused on “Islamic Finance in the Post-COVID-19 Era: A Path to Economic Development and Resilience”.

The CIBAFI Forum was led as part of MedaWeek Barcelona 2021 and brought together decision-makers, investors, entrepreneurs, senior executives from financial institutions, business leaders, policy makers, regulators, heads of government and ministers from across the Mediterranean, Europe and the Middle East.

The MIFF panel discussion discussed the impacts of the pandemic and how organizations are responding to create opportunities, address challenges, and boost the industry post-coronavirus.

The session also addressed how Islamic finance helps achieve the Sustainable Development Goals and how it can play a vital role in promoting economic development and promoting prosperity in the Mediterranean and African regions.

The session highlighted the importance of technology and innovation as a driving force for the penetration of Islamic finance in developing and emerging regions, such as the Mediterranean region.

The forum is in line with CIBAFI’s strategic objective to promote and facilitate the growth of Islamic finance. CIBAFI continues to support the Islamic financial services industry through various activities and initiatives.
