Media plays key role in highlighting climate challenges, says BNA director-general

Dubai, Feb. 15 (BNA): Director General of the Bahrain News Agency (BNA) Abdullah Khalil Buheji stressed the pivotal role of the media in supporting issues related to climate change and highlighting environmental challenges.

He highlighted the role of the media in developing awareness among societies with the aim of deepening trends aimed at reducing practices that negatively affect the safety and sustainability of the environment and thus human life in general.

This came during his participation in a round table hosted by the Emirates News Agency (WAM), under the slogan “Forming Future Governments”, within the framework of the second day of the World Government Summit to be held in Dubai.

He supported the issuance of a scientific bulletin specialized in Arab and international news agencies, stressing the need to support societal initiatives of the private sector, including institutions and companies that mainly aim to preserve the environment and reduce carbon emissions in their practices.

The round table called for a more applicable media discourse and news content that contributes to forming a public opinion aware of the challenges facing the world.

The Director General of the agency, Muhammad Jalal Al-Raisi, stressed the importance of the summit as an important opportunity for regional and international news agencies to exchange experiences and best media practices on the challenges the world is going through.

He said, “The challenge of climate change represents a global crisis because of its comprehensive repercussions on various countries of the world.”

He said, “The Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change is an opportunity to unite international efforts, promote joint initiatives, and draw a road map for the future of climate change repercussions.”

The Director General of the Union of News Agencies of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (UNA), Muhammad Al-Yami, called for commitment to professionalism and reliance on reliable sources, and stressed the need to deal with climate issues.

Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) Dr. Fatima Al-Salem pointed out the importance of promoting environmental awareness, especially in the Gulf countries, by embracing official and governmental climate media.

Dr. Farid Ayyar, Secretary General of the Federation of Arab News Agencies (FANA), stressed the importance of holding specialized courses in Arab news agencies to deal with climate challenges.

Najib Kouaia, CEO of Media City Mauritius, stressed the importance of producing scientific content that contributes to changing the behavior of societies, stressing the need to highlight the challenges facing the African continent and stimulate global channels to address its issues.

Zhang Lei, Executive Director of the China Media Group Regional Office for the Middle East, pointed out the importance of increasing environmental awareness among various segments of society through modern media.

Muhammad Onazir, CEO of Metro TV Media Group – Indonesia, pointed out the importance of highlighting environmental issues and focusing on developing educational curricula in a way that contributes to enhancing the awareness of new generations.
