Man dies after being gored at Spanish bull-running festival

Madrid, October 31 (BNA) The Spanish authorities said that a man bled to death from his wounds after he was gored at a bull-running festival in eastern Spain.

It was the first such death in the country since such events resumed after COVID-19 restrictions were eased over the summer.

The city council said on Saturday that the 55-year-old, whose name has not been released, was repeatedly attacked by a bull at the festival in Onda.

The other participants tried to lure the animal away, but their efforts were unsuccessful.

Emergency services said the man died later on Saturday in a hospital in the neighboring town of Villareal after bleeding from a wound in his left thigh that perforated his artery. He was also hit in the head.

Onda Council has canceled all bull runs planned for the city’s festival, which ends on Sunday. Other activities were not affected.

The public debate over whether to cancel bull festivals has become more heated in recent years, and only a few have occurred since coronavirus restrictions were lifted in Spain.

Animals released for running are generally used in bullfights later in the day. A 2020 poll by polling firm Electomania found that 46.7% of Spaniards supported a bullfighting ban, while 34.7% did not support a legal ban but did not support a legal ban and 18.6% believed it should be maintained.
