Magnitude 6 earthquake strikes off Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula

Moscow, April 6 (BNA): The Kamchatka Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences said in a statement that a 6-magnitude earthquake struck 445 km from the Russian city of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.

“The epicenter was 445 km from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, at a depth of 94.3 km. The magnitude of the earthquake was 6,” the statement said.

In turn, the Russian Emergencies Ministry in the Sakhalin region said that an earthquake was recorded in the Pacific Ocean, 150 kilometers south of the city of Severo-Kurilsk, at 1:22 pm (02:22 GMT).

The city felt a magnitude 2 earthquake, TASS reports today.

According to initial reports, there were no injuries or damages. No tsunami warning was issued. The Sakhalin branch of the Emergencies Ministry added that buildings were being checked for damage.
