Magnitude 5.7 earthquake in northwestern Iran

West Azerbaijan Province, October 5 (BNA) A 5.7-magnitude earthquake struck northwest Iran, and state television said that the medical authorities in the region reported that at least 276 people were injured.

The epicenter of the earthquake was near the town of Khoy in West Azerbaijan Province. Khoi’s emergency medical service said, “276 people have been injured so far, including 68 who have been hospitalized with minor fractures.”

The quake occurred 11.6 kilometers from Khoi and at a depth of 10 kilometers, the US Geological Survey said.

The free zone said earlier that the quake had a magnitude of 5.5 and was close to the border area between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
