Luka Doncic scores 49 points, Mavs beat Pelicans 125-118

WASHINGTON, Feb. 18 (US): When Luka Doncic finished sending questions about his latest performance, packed with distinction and scoring, a Dallas employee told him to enjoy his all-star break.

“No rest,” Doncic replied. In fact, he would be busy over the weekend in the NBA All-Star, and the skill he produced in New Orleans provided another example of why he belonged.

Doncic scored 49 points and had 15 rebounds, and the Mavericks were not behind in their 125-118 victory over the Pelicans on Thursday night, their sixth victory in seven games, according to the Associated Press.

“What he’s doing now is unbelievable,” Mavericks player Maxi Kleiber said, stressing that Doncic made it look easy to score 40 points. “He is just talented as a teammate. It is fun to watch.”

Doncic made four of his first five 3-point shots – sometimes skipping back to the defensive end in celebration as the net spread from a long shot – before finishing 7 from 14 from deep. He also got eight assists.

Dallas raced to a 45-27 lead after the first quarter, when Doncic scored 19 points and the Mavs combined to score nine points from 12 3s.

“Luca set the tone early and often,” said Muffs coach Jason Kidd. “We can sit here and talk about him all day. The things he does on the field for himself and his teammates are amazing.
