LMRA chief: Combating trafficking in persons well-established national approach in Bahrain

Manama, December 20 (BNA): The first training program targeting trainers who deal with victims of human trafficking, organized by the Regional Center for Excellence in Capacity Building in Combating Human Trafficking, in cooperation with the International Organization for Combating Human Trafficking. The International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries concluded.

On this occasion, the CEO of the Labor Market Regulatory Authority, Jamal Abdulaziz Al-Alawi, expressed the authority’s pride in the role played by the Regional Center of Excellence for Capacity Building in the Field of Combating Human Trafficking to develop and build the capacities of first responders to victims of trafficking in persons or potential victims, as well as providing them with the necessary expertise about Methods of dealing with and assisting victims.

He stressed that the LMRA’s strategy aims to promote a culture of combating human trafficking to be a well-established social behaviour.

Al-Alawi praised the large number of participants in the training program, including representatives of eight governmental and non-governmental agencies, namely the Ministry of Information Affairs, the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism, primary health care centers and the National Contact Center. , Labor Market Regulatory Authority, Bahrain Airport Company, Bahrain Airport Services Company (BAS), and Bahrain Corporate Social Responsibility Association.

He thanked all the participating parties working in partnership with the Labor Market Regulatory Authority in the system of combating the crime of human trafficking, which he said is a well-established national approach in the Kingdom.

He pointed out that the Regional Center of Excellence for Capacity Building in Combating Human Trafficking is planning intensive training courses to rehabilitate those dealing with victims of human trafficking, not only at the local level, but at the state level as well. In the Middle East, which represents a Bahraini contribution to supporting international efforts to combat the crime of human trafficking, the center being the first of its kind in the region.

The Acting United Nations Resident Coordinator and Head of Mission of the International Organization for Migration in the Kingdom of Bahrain, Muhammad Al-Zarkani, expressed his appreciation for Bahrain’s efforts to raise public awareness in the field of combating human trafficking.

Al-Zarqani stressed the firm interest of the United Nations and its specialized agencies in strengthening cooperation and coordination with the Kingdom, represented by the Labor Market Regulatory Authority, to provide all its expertise in developing and training Bahraini competencies.

He highlighted the continuous strong partnership between the Government of Bahrain and the United Nations over the past years, which resulted in many achievements in the field of crime prevention and criminal justice in general, and addressing human trafficking in particular.

The Labor Market Regulatory Authority indicated that the program seeks to develop training programs and curricula related to the psychology of victims and appropriate methods of intervention, in addition to enhancing capacity building for this target group from various fields facing or dealing with victims or potential victims of trafficking, through cooperation with many Specialized national experts and practitioners.

In the health field, the program will enhance capacities to identify victims or potential victims of trafficking, or those who are being exploited. In addition to training and rehabilitating them in diagnosing cases, dealing with them, and taking appropriate measures in this regard.

With regard to the press and media, the program will develop specialized training courses aimed at shedding light on the different forms of trafficking through various media platforms with the aim of educating the community to combat trafficking in addition to the rights of expatriate workers as a first step in preventing trafficking. the crime.

In addition, the training program will assist those working at borders and airports who are first responders to victims or potential victims of trafficking as well as familiarizing them with indicators and practices of exploitation.

The program also aims to develop the capacities of shelter supervisors in dealing with and caring for victims of trafficking, in addition to rehabilitating and reintegrating victims and gaining their trust.

One of the main objectives of the training program is to develop the capabilities of labor inspectors in identifying indicators of trafficking and adopting appropriate methods and measures to deal with crime.
