Lewandowski scores late as Bayern beats Augsburg 1-0

Bayern, April 9 (BNA): Robert Lewandowski scored a late penalty kick to lead Bayern Munich to their Champions League defeat to defeat Augsburg 1-0 on Saturday and take another step towards achieving the 10th title in a row.

This was Lewandowski’s 32nd league goal in 29 games this season and saw Bayern advance by nine points over second-placed Borussia Dortmund. The two teams met in Munich on April 23, and Augsburg remained six points above the relegation zone.

Bayern unexpectedly lost 1-0 to Villarreal in the first leg of the quarter-finals on Wednesday. The Spanish side visit Munich on Tuesday and Bayern seem to be watching that disappointing first half match against Augsburg.

The Associated Press said Bayern had only four shots on target, none on target in the first 45 minutes, but improved after the break.

He finally broke the deadlock eight minutes before the time. The referee initially waved play but reversed his decision and awarded Bayern the penalty after a video review of Augsburg defender Reese Oxford.
