Leipzig, Leicester reach semfinals in European competitions

Berlin, April 14 / BNA / Christopher Nkunko scored two goals to lead Leipzig to the semi-finals of the European Championship with a 2-0 victory over Atlanta in the second leg of the European League quarter-final on Thursday.

Nkunko scored the goal after 18 minutes with a kick from Konrad Laimer and doubled the lead with a penalty late in the second half as Leipzig won 3-1 on aggregate.

He will face the German club Rangers or Braga in the semi-finals. The Associated Press reported that the Portuguese club was in Scotland to protect its 1-0 lead over Rangers.

Leicester became the first team to advance to the semi-finals of the inaugural European Conference League after coming from a goal down to beat PSV Eindhoven 2-1 in the Netherlands.

Leicester’s 2-1 win on aggregate after a 0-0 draw in the first leg constitutes a semi-final match against Roma or Norway, Bodo/Glimt.

Ricardo Pereira scored the winning goal two minutes from the end of Leicester’s first European semi-final after goalkeeper Yvonne Mfugo saved an attempt by substitute Patson Dhaka.

PSV Eindhoven opened the scoring when former Germany international Mario Gotze sent Iran Zahavi to score his eighth European goal this season and fourth in his last four Europa League matches.

James Maddison brushed it off for Leicester in the 77th minute. Bodo/Glimt will defend their 2-1 lead over Roma later Thursday. Marseille had a 2-1 lead over PAOK Thessaloniki before the return leg in Greece, while Slavia Prague and Feyenoord were advancing 3-3 in the second leg of the third division in Europe.
