Leicester’s Maddison out of Liverpool game with knee problem

Leicester, Dec 29 (BNA): Leicester City midfielder James Maddison will miss Friday’s Premier League match against Liverpool with a knee injury and has seen a specialist on the issue, Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers said.

Reuters reports Maddison went off injured after scoring in Leicester’s 2-0 win over West Ham United ahead of the World Cup, and while he was part of the England squad he did not play.

“Madison will not be available for the game,” Rodgers said in a press conference on Wednesday. “He’s been with (club doctor) Mark Waller getting some private advice in London, so I’ll wait to hear from them later.

“He hasn’t trained with the team. He was obviously receiving treatment and he and the medical staff deemed it okay for training. He was available for the England matches.

“He came back, looked to get some work done, and felt pain in a different part of his knee.”

Maddison has been in impressive form for Leicester, who are 13th this season with seven goals and four assists in the league.

Belgian midfielder Dennis Bright will also miss the Liverpool game after suffering an early blow in Leicester’s 3-0 defeat by Newcastle United on Monday after replacing Maddison in the starting line-up.
