Leão stars as Milan beats Dinamo 3-1 in Champions League

Manama, Sept. 14 (BNA): Milan are likely to be more excited to extend the contract of Rafael Leao after the Portuguese striker once again starred in the Rossoneri’s victory.

Leao earned a penalty – which Olivier Giroud converted – and set up Alexis Sailemaker’s second goal for AC Milan to help his side beat Dinamo Zagreb 3-1 in the Champions League on Wednesday. Tommaso Pobega settled the score after 13 minutes from the end.

The 23-year-old was one of the stars of last season’s title-winning Milan side, according to the Associated Press.

He has also scored three goals in six Serie A matches this season and will be severely absent when Milan host Napoli as he is suspended for the weekend’s match.

Milan are already in talks to extend Leão’s contract, which expires in 2024. Chelsea, who is also in Milan’s Champions League group, is one of the clubs interested in him.

This was Milan’s first win in the competition this season, after it opened with a 1-1 draw in Salzburg. Dynamo beat Chelsea in the opening match.

Milan dominated the San Siro on Wednesday but lacked precision in attack and it took until the end of the first half to break the deadlock after Dynamo defender Josip Otalo ousted Liao.

Giroud hit the penalty kick in the lower right corner. Milan doubled his tally immediately after the break when Liao shone his way into the area and crossed through Sailmakers to header from close range.

Dinamo pulled one back in the 56th minute, also with some great skill, when Bruno Petkovic fired in a superb backheel pass and the Croatian hit the ball into the lower right corner.

Liao also had a third-place role for Milan. Pobega picked and played the Italian midfielder one-two for Theo Hernandez before hitting the underside of the crossbar to score his first Champions League goal.
