Labour Minister opens ‘Social Dialogue in times of Crises’ conference

Manama, November 2 (BNA) The Minister of Labor and Social Development Jamil bin Muhammad Ali Humaidan inaugurated today the “Social Dialogue in Times of Crisis” conference organized by the General Federation of Trade Unions in Bahrain. In cooperation with the International Labor Organization.

Representatives of employers, trade unions, economic functions and the International Labor Organization attended the opening of the two-day conference.

The conference will discuss a number of topics related to the reality of the economic vision of the Kingdom of Bahrain 2030 in light of the challenges arising from the Corona virus epidemic and its economic and social repercussions.

It focuses on two main topics, the first deals with the labor market and its economic and social repercussions, and the tripartite councils and their role in social protection. The second deals with social dialogue and its institutions, and covers the financial situation and its economic and social effects, in addition to the social dimension and future prospects.

In his speech at the conference, the minister stressed that the Kingdom always seeks to consolidate social dialogue, especially at the level of work, noting that Bahrain has a pioneering experience in the field of tripartite dialogue with the presence of trade unions that operate freely and independently.

He pointed out that despite the repercussions of the pandemic, the government, workers and employers have proven their eagerness to continue the tripartite coordination.

He also reviewed the efforts made by the government to confront the challenges resulting from Covid-19, and the Kingdom’s position among the leading countries in the precautionary health, social and economic measures that led to the stability of the labor market and the reduction of layoffs.

He highlighted the economic recovery plan recently approved by the Cabinet. The program includes creating promising job opportunities, making Bahraini citizens the first choice in the labor market, employing 20,000 Bahrainis, in addition to providing training for 10,000 Bahrainis annually until 2024.

He stressed that the second edition of the National Employment Program had yielded positive results by employing 25,000 citizens and training 10,000 others.

The Secretary General of GFWTUB, Abdul Qader Al Shehabi, the Second Vice President of the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI), Mohammed Abdul-Jabbar Al Kooheji, and the ILO Regional Director for Arab States, Ruba Jaradat, also spoke during the opening session of the conference. conspiracy. They stressed the importance of strengthening social dialogue in times of crisis to keep the labor market away from negative effects in such emergency circumstances. They praised the measures taken by the Kingdom to address the epidemic at the health, labor and economic levels, which led to the stability of the labor market during this exceptional period that the world is going through.
