Melbourne, Jan. 30 (BUS): French Open champion Barbora Krejsikova and Katerina Siniakova added the Australian Open women’s doubles title to its resumption on Sunday with a 6-7 (3), 6-4, 6-4 victory over Anna Danielina and Beatriz. Blacksmith Maya.
The top seed, who was defeated in the final at Melbourne Park last year, took some time to gain ground and had to come back from a group to claim the title for the first time, Reuters reported.
The unseeded duo beat the Olympic champions in a tiebreak to win the first set, but scores tied at the end of the second set, as the Czech duo found their rhythm.
Krijsikova and Sinyakova broke Haddad Maya for five games in the deciding set to take advantage and increased Sinyakova’s goal with a forehand on Danilina’s serve in two matches later.
Danilina’s shot into the net set off a break that halted their opponents’ celebrations, but Krizhikova held her serve to end the match.
The victory is the Czech duo’s fourth title in a Grand Slam together, having won the French Open in 2018 and 2021 and Wimbledon in 2018.
