Kenya tourism earnings double in Jan-Aug this year as arrivals soar

Nairobi, September 9 (BNA) Kenya’s tourism and wildlife profits more than doubled to 167.1 billion shillings ($1 billion) in the January-August period from 83 billion shillings in the same period a year ago, Kenya’s Minister of Tourism and Wildlife said on Friday.

The earnings came as a result of a 91% increase in the number of international visitors to 924,812 partly due to the recovery from the pandemic, Balala said in a statement, and it expected strong growth through the end of the year.

According to Reuters, tourism along with gardening, tea and remittances are the biggest sources of foreign exchange in Kenya.
