Juventus overcomes injuries to beat Spezia; Napoli vs. Milan

Milan, March 6 (BNA): Late Juventus scored a 1-0 win over lowly Spezia on Sunday to keep the pressure on the top three in Serie A ahead of Milan’s match against Napoli.

Alvaro Morata scored the only goal of the match after a mistake by the Spezia goalkeeper, according to the Associated Press.

Fourth-placed Juventus continued its unbeaten run in the league to 14 games and advanced five points behind the league leaders Inter Milan. Napoli and Milan are one point behind Inter and play each other later on Sunday.

Juventus advanced by six points from fifth-placed Atalanta, who played a game less. The unbeaten streak came despite the injury crisis that saw coach Massimiliano Allegri’s team start the match in Turin without nine regular players.

The match started with life when Juventus broke the scoring in the 21st minute. A terrible kick from goalkeeper Ivan Providel was intercepted in the middle of the field and played for Manuel Locatelli, who pushed it to Morata in a superb position on the left side of the area.

The Juventus forward hit the ball into the far bottom corner to score his first league goal since December.

Spezia started the second half strongly and almost equalized, but Emmanuel Gyasi’s header was directly at Juventus goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny, who hit it on the goal line.
