Justice Minister hails Bahrain’s achievements in developing criminal justice system

Manama, July 3 (BNA) The Minister of Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments, Nawaf bin Mohammed Al-Maawda, affirmed that the Kingdom of Bahrain has made important achievements in developing the criminal justice system in legislation and practice.






The minister pointed out the importance of cooperation between the executive and legislative branches.


He added that the cooperation contributed to bringing about a radical change in the judicial field, with the aim of achieving the goals of the comprehensive development process led by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and with the support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa. Al-Mouda shed light on the Restorative Justice Law to protect children from abuse, which gives priority to children in all decisions and procedures related to it, regardless of the party that issued it or that is doing it, in line with international standards in this regard.


He pointed out that one of the most important keys of this law is the child’s social report, which will be prepared by specialists in the psychological and social fields before the Supreme Reformatory Court of Justice for Children, taking into account the continued judicial oversight of the child’s condition and monitoring of his condition during the period of detention. Implement the alternative measure.


The decision taken will be based on the reports submitted on his condition regarding the continuation of the implementation of the procedure or punishment, or its replacement with another or its termination, with periodic follow-up of his social and psychological condition and the extent of progress and improvement in his condition.

He referred to the amendment of the Penal Code to punish those who refrain without excuse from enabling the right holder to visit the child in custody, which comes within the framework of developing the family entity protection system and ensuring that emotional requirements are met. Meeting the needs of the child by filling the legislative void in this aspect.


The Minister affirmed that we are moving forward in strengthening legislation related to the protection of children’s rights and the stability of their psychological and social environment by reviewing advanced experiences and applications in accordance with the latest practices.
