Joshua triggers rematch with Usyk, says promoter Hearn

London, October 10 / BNA / Joshua promoter Eddie Hearn said that Briton Anthony Joshua has decided to hold a rematch against his heavyweight rival Oleksandr Usyk, and the fight may take place in March.

Joshua lost his WBA, WBO, IBF and IBO belts to Ukraine’s USIC based on a unanimous decision at London’s Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last month, Reuters reports.

“He (Joshua) got his head back in the game,” Hearn told DAZN on Saturday. “He is training now and today we have officially launched the rematch of the Oleksandr Osek fight, which we will see early next spring.

“We are looking for him to become the three-time world heavyweight champion. I think realistically that March is the time when you are likely to see a rematch.”

A potential world heavyweight unification battle between Joshua and fellow WBC champion Tyson Fury has been thrown into uncertainty after Fury promoter Frank Warren said he couldn’t see it happening.

Fury is set to face American Deontay Wilder for the third time on Saturday in Las Vegas, for the British WBC heavyweight title.
