LOS ANGELES, Oct. 10 (BUS) – Four-time NBA champion LeBron James has set the standard for longevity in the league as the 36-year-old enters his 19th season, Golden State Warriors’ Steve Curry said. .
Superstar James was named the NBA Finals Player of the Year 17 times last year after helping the Lakers win the championship over the Miami Heat, adding another award to his illustrious career, Reuters reported.
Curry, who faced James and the Cleveland Cavaliers for four consecutive years in the NBA Finals from 2015 to 2018, praised James.
“He set the standard for that,” Curry said before Friday’s preseason game against the Lakers, which the Warriors won 121-114.
“Nine finals in a row, all the things he accomplished. You have a vision to keep your head for as long as possible, kind of re-imagining what that would look like.
“So you know the work that goes into it, especially in the off-season, and especially how you take care of your body and mind. Balance on the court, off the field.”
MVP Curry said twice that James started attending his matches while the Warriors star was still playing at Davidson College in North Carolina in 2008.
“For me, it’s just a weird perspective because I still remember my college days and he was just at his prime in the league,” Curry said.
“And in my sophomore year, the (NCAA) tournament, he came to a game, and then he came to a game in my freshman year. That’s funny. I still have a shirt that he taped back in 2008 at my dad’s house in Charlotte.
“So it’s kind of weird to think about what happened in the last 13 or 14 years.”
The 2021-2022 NBA regular season will begin on October 19.
